Perils of remote access in the news

The media routinely exposes consumer security issues. With the increase in consumer devices accessed over the Internet, this will escalate.

In this FOX 35 News report, network administrator Douglas Chick demonstrates how to find, access, and control "security" Webcams over the Internet. These Webcams are not secured.

Chick explains: "You can set up your laptop somewhere in a coffee shop and wait until somebody leaves their house, and you already know what they have inside of it, because they're on the Internet."
Chick recommends: "If you secure your camera with a password, nobody can see it."

Unfortunately, using a password is not enough: Without SSL, the cameras send passwords unencrypted over the Internet. This means that hackers can grab your username and password when you send them over the Internet. Later, hackers can log into your Webcam and check out your house: if you're home, they can watch what you're doing; if you're out, they can decide to break in and rob you.

AutoSSL is the only solution that automatically and completely secures Webcams at an affordable price.
